Week 16—Mon, 26 Dec 2005

Subject: Es Lunes...

...y los Piedras Rojas va a ir al postseason con solamente una gana mas!

(and the Redskins are going to go to the postseason with only one more win)

Yep... they beat the Giagantes on Saturday. By all accounts, it was a good game, though I didn't get to see it, as we were spending our day traveling through Mexico City on our way to Sayulita... and while we got to read about the (typical for Joe Gibbs) strong ending to this season, the fact that the game was on the local Azteca station didn't mean it was on in the airport.

Nor was it on in the Puerta Vallarta bar where we waited to find news of our luggage. (as it turned out, we never got any news of it, but it did find it way to us here in Sayulita. More details on innerslacker.com)

We did get to see yesterdays Green Bay/Chicago game... where we watched Farvre throw four interceptions in the loss to the Bears. When will he finally enter the broadcast booth... or is his career destined to end the same way that Theismann's did?

Since I'm still fairly ignorant with regard to this week's games, I thought I'd give you the playoff situation... from here under the palapa, while sipping on a pacifico.

So, without further ado:

AFC:
The Patriots, Bengals, Colts, Jaguars and Broncos are in.

The Steelers are probably in. They can get in by:

- Beating Detroit on Sunday. or
- Watching the Chargers beat Denver on Sunday. or
- Watching the Bengals beat Kansas City on Sunday.

If none of those scenarios happen, then the Chiefs will take the spot.

NFC:
The Giants, Bears and Seahawks are in.

The Redskins can get in by winning against Philly on Sunday, or by watching Dallas lose to the Rams on Sunday Night.

The Buccaneers can get in by beating the Saints on Sunday or by watching Atlanta beat Carolina on Sunday.

Carolina can get in by: - Beating Atlanta, or
- Watching Philly beat Washington, or
- Watching Dallas lose to St. Louis

Dallas can get in by beating the Rams on Sunday Night... if and only if Washington loses to Philly.

I'd like to say that this brings us to tonight's game... but you'll notice that none of the scenarios involve tonight.

The Game:

Tonight the New England Patriots go to East Rutherford, NJ to take on the J-E-T-S in Giants Stadium on the Fieldturf of Giants Stadium. After a failed natural grass experiment in 2000 and 2001, the stadium decided that fieldturf was the way to go. It is expected that this stadium will be replaced in 2008.

The Line:
The Patriots are favored by 8. the Over/Under is 37.5.

The 15-12 Smart Money takes the over.

The Bar:
Sutter Street Station.
554 Market Street near Sansome
Within steps of lots of Market Street transit.

We'll be at Don Julio's, on the beach in Sayulita.

Kickoff is at 6:00. Have a good time!
